About Us
What is the ASHP Foundation?
The ASHP Research and Education Foundation is the philanthropical arm of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), the national professional organization representing pharmacists practicing in hospitals and health systems.
The ASHP Foundation was created in 1968 by three visionary leaders in health-system pharmacy: Joseph Beckerman, Joseph Oddis and Milton Skolaut. Their goal was to create a research organization supported completely through donations, which would encourage, provide for and engage in scientific research, professional study and the advancement of the science of hospital and institutional pharmacy.
Today, the Foundation offers more than 25 research grant, educational, and awards programs that assist and recognize pharmacists providing care to patients in our nation’s hospitals and health systems, leading to optimal medication outcomes. Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, the Foundation is led by Executive Vice President Stephen J. Allen.
