Jill E. Martin, Pharm.D., FASHP, is Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Cincinnati with a focus on transplant outcomes research and a clinical practice in transplantation. She is also the Director of Transplant Outcomes at the University Hospital where she has extensive involvement in outcomes management, assessing resource utilization, and quality of life measurements. Previously, she practiced for 15 years as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at the University of Cincinnati Hospital.

Martin received her degrees at the University of Kentucky. She has presented nationally and published extensively in the areas of transplant economics, pain management, and quality of life. Within ASHP, Martin has served on the ASHP Board of Directors, Chair of the Council on Professional Affairs, Co-Chair of the ASHP Foundation Development Committee, Task Force on Organizational Affairs, and Network Facilitator for Transplant/Immunology. She is the 1999 recipient of the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists Walter A. Frazier Award.

Cynthia Brennan, Pharm.D., M.H.A. is the Assistant Director of Pharmacy at Harborview Medical Center and Clinical Professor at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy in Seattle, Washington.  Her ambulatory care pharmacists practice under liberal collaborative drug therapy management agreements in all primary care and most specialty care clinics. Dr. Brennan is active nationally, currently serving as the Past President of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. She is the co-director for the Washington State Pharmacist Quality Improvement Project, developing innovative methods for pharmacists across various healthcare settings to provide continuity of care.

Her professional career includes broad experience in ambulatory clinical practice, health care administration, and quality and process improvement. She has lectured extensively in a variety of settings including academia and continuing education forums. 

Dr. Brennan received her PharmD from the University of Southern California and her M.H.A. from the University of Washington.
Dr. Henri Manasse, President Henri R. Manasse, Jr., President

Henri R. Manasse, Jr., Pharm.D., M.Ph., is executive vice president and chief executive officer of ASHP. The Executive Vice President of ASHP serves as the President of the Foundation Board and serves as the official liaison from ASHP to the Foundation Board of Directors. Dr. Manasse also serves as Professional Secretary of the Board of Pharmaceutical Practice of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). In 2006, he was appointed chair of the newly formed Board of Governors of the National Patient Safety Foundation (NSPF). In addition, Dr. Manasse has chaired the Sentinel Event Alert Advisory Group at the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Manasse received his bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Illinois at the Medical Center, a master's degree in educational psychology from Loyola University of Chicago, and the doctorate in pharmacy administration from the University of Minnesota.

Most recently, Dr. Manasse has been named the recipient of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists 2007 Harvey A.K. Whitney Lecture Award.

Paul W. Abramowitz, Treasurer

Paul W. Abramowitz, Pharm.D., FASHP is currently Pharmacy Director at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Professor and Assistant Dean at the College of Pharmacy.  Paul is a Past-President of ASHP, and a Past-Chairperson of the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, the UHC Pharmacy Council, Novation Pharmacy Council, and Iowa Statewide Poison Control Center. 

Paul has published extensively and his current areas of research interest include; studying the impact of quality pharmaceutical care can have on improving outcomes of care and reducing costs, reduction of adverse drug events, development of continuity of care models between sites of care, and redesign of pharmacy services. 

Paul received his Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Toledo, his Pharm.D. from the University of Michigan, and completed his residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center.

Paul was a recipient of the John. W. Webb Lecture Award in 2000.

Stephen J. Allen, R.Ph., M.S., FASHP, has served as the ASHP Foundation's executive vice president since 2000. He has extensive health-system pharmacy management experience, having served as director of pharmacy at Children's Hospital National Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, and Georgetown University Hospital. Mr. Allen received his bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Rhode Island, and his master's degree in hospital pharmacy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where he also completed a residency in hospital pharmacy practice.

Ron J. Anderson, R.Ph., M.D., FACP, is President and CEO of Parkland Memorial Hospital as well as a professor at several universities in Texas, where he teaches internal medicine, health policy and health law. Dr. Anderson was named the 2005 Most Powerful Physician-Executive in the Healthcare Industry by Modern Physician magazine.

He completed a B.S. in pharmacy at the Southwestern University of Oklahoma in 1969 and recieved his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in 1973. Anderson has received numerous honors throughout his career, including being named one of Modern Healthcare magazine's 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare in 2003 and 2004.

He sits on numerous professional committees, has made almost 200 presentations at professional meetings, and has authored hundreds of healthcare articles and abstracts for both professional and lay publications. Anderson has also made numerous television appearances on such programs as "60 Minutes," "Good Morning America," "Today Show," "CBS Evening News," and "NBC Nightly News."

Barbara Balik, Director at Large

Barbara Balik, R.N., M.S., Ed.D., is an independent healthcare consultant focusing on quality and safety. Previously, she worked at Allina Hospitals and Clinics in St. Paul, MN, filling three roles: Executive Vice President of Safety and Quality Systems, the System Patient Safety Officer and the Chief Quality Officer. She completed her doctorate degree in education at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, and earned her master's degree in family nursing from the University of Minnesota. Her bachelor's degree in nursing came from Marycrest College in Davenport, IA.

Balik serves on the National Patient Safety Foundaiton's Board of Governors and has also been a member of the selection panel for the ASHP Foundation's Award for Excellence in Medication-Use Safety for 3 years.

As a leader and nationally recognized expert in safety and quality systems, Balik has presented numerous times on these topics. She is passionate about building leadership skills and systems to transform health care.
Lourdes M. Cuellar, Director at Large

Lourdes Cuellar, M.S., FASHP, is the Senior Executive Director of Medical Support Services, Director of Pharmacy, and the Patient Safety Officer for The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research in Houston, Texas, where she has worked since 1979. She received her master's degree in pharmacy administration and her bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Houston. Cuellar has served on numerous pharmacy profession boards and committees and has been a prolific lecturer and author. She was awarded the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists' 2005 Distinguished Service Award, and has twice been named Pharmacist of the Year (by the Gulf Coast Society of Health-System Pharmacists in 2004 and by TSHP in 2000). She is also the inspiration behind the TSHP's Lourdes M. Cuellar Circle of Excellence Award, which was created in 2001.
David R. Gaugh

Mr. Gaugh is the Vice President and General Manager of the Bedford Laboratories Division of Ben Venue Laboratories, a Boehringer Ingelheim Company where he is responsible for Business Development, Marketing and Sales for the multi-source injectable business.  Prior to his current position at Bedford, David has served as as Director of Marketing and Business Development and General Manager and has held the position of Vice President and General Manager since January 2007.

Before joining Ben Venue, David was Senior Director, Pharmacy Contracting and Marketing at Novation; the largest Group Purchasing Organization in the US. Prior to Novation, he was System Director of Pharmacy for St. Luke’s Health System, a teaching hospital in Kansas City, MO.

David is a registered Pharmacist and a graduate of the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy. He is engaged in several pharmacy-related activities such as the GPhA Bio-Similar Task Force, ASHP Foundation Corporate Development Committee and various Pharmacy/Marketing Internship Programs.
James F. Murray

James F. Murray;, Ph.D., is the Senior Director of Outcomes Reserach and Management for the US Human Health Division of Merck, Inc. Before assuming his current position at Merck, Jim served as Director of Outcomes and Research Management, Senior Director, Global and US Health and Welfare Benefits and Senior Director, HR Decision Support. In his current role, Jim is responsible for strategy and tactics related to emerging policies regarding Healthcare Quality Measurement and Improvement, Pay for Performance and Evidence-based Medicine within the US Healthcare system.

Before joining Merck, Jim was Assistant Vice President for Research and Development, U.S. Algorithms, a subsidiary of US Healthcare, Inc. Prior to U.S. Algorithms, he was an Assistant Professor and Researcher in the Center for Health Services Research at the University of Iowa Medical School.

Jim received his B.S. in Programming and Systems Analysis, an M.S. in Information Systems and his Ph.D. in Decision Sciences and Operations Research from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He currently serves on a number of national committees and groups, including the Board of Directors of the New York Business Group on Health and the HEIDIS Technical Advisory Committee for the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

David D. Stevens, M.B.A., is a partner in a venture capital firm based in Memphis, TN and is a member of the Board of Directors of Medco Health. Previously Mr. Stevens was the founder and former chairman of the board/chief executive officer of Accredo Health, Inc., a leading provider of specialty pharmacy services, prior to its acquisition by Medco Health in 2005. Mr. Stevens is also the founder and former president of Southern Health Systems, and the former vice president of operations for Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center, Inc. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from Memphis State University, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He currently resides in Cordova, Tenn.

Billy W. Woodward, R.Ph., is the principal for Renaissance Health Inc., LLC, a health care consulting company providing services to hospitals and health systems and is also a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Texas College of Pharmacy. Previously he served as executive director, Department of Pharmacy, Scott and White Health System for more than 25 years.

Mr. Woodward has a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a frequent lecturer on the subject of health-system pharmacy leadership and reimbursement for pharmacy services and products.  Mr. Woodward is the recipient of the 2004 Harvey A. K. Whitney Lecture Award.
