15th Annual Walter Jones Golf Classic
September 19, 2010
Shotgun Start: Noon
PB Dye Golf Course
Ijamsville, Maryland
The Walter Jones Golf Classic began in 1995 as a tribute to Walter Jones, a 29-year veteran ASHP staff member who dedicated himself to the success of pharmacy students. His true affection and interest in the students serving as ASHP Executive Residents had a significant and lasting impact on these young people, who wanted to do something to remember Walter. Read their memories of Walter here.
The result was a golf tournament benefitting a fund in his name, the Walter Jones Memorial Pharmacy Student Financial Aid Fund. The fund makes it possible for the ASHP Foundation to offer awards of $2,500 to the 12 recipients of the ASHP Student Leadership Awards each year. Last year, the golf tournament raised more than $30,000 for the Walter Jones Fund. Read what past awardees have to say about the award here.
The golf tournament raises money through sponsors, donations made directly to the fund, and through a portion of each golfer's registration fee. The remaining portion of the registration fees goes to cover the cost of the tournament.
