2009 Awardees
“What an honor to have received the ASHP Student Leadership Award! To be recognized as a leader by an organization that represents the best in pharmacy practice was a humbling experience. The award encourages excellence and achievement in pharmacy education, and I feel privileged to be a part of the tradition. I owe my sincerest gratitude to the outstanding pharmacists that contribute to the ASHP Foundation and my numerous mentors at the University of Cincinnati, James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy. The generous library and financial support helped me to be able to participate in multiple pharmacy leadership development endeavors. I look forward to my continued involvement with ASHP throughout my career, and to the future development of student leaders. Thank you for your personal contribution to this outstanding program.”
―Rachel (Brewer) Kruer, Class of 2010, University of Cincinnati

“I am very honored to have been chosen as a recipient of the ASHP Student Leadership Award, and I am extremely grateful for the recognition and financial assistance. The new library of information is currently helping me tremendously in my residency and the scholarship has aided me in my professional pursuits. Winning this award has been one of my greatest accomplishments. I thank everyone who has contributed to the Walter Jones Fund so that it can serve as a resource that motivates future pharmacists to continue challenging themselves professionally and to actively take part on issues that will impact our profession.”
―Jennifer Chan, Class of 2009, University of Illinois at Chicago

“The ASHP Student Leadership Award has meant a great deal to me personally and
professionally. I was honored that my involvement in the organization and at the University of Rhode Island was recognized. In the words of Edwin H. Friedman, ‘Leadership can be thought of as a capacity to define oneself to others in a way that clarifies and expands a vision of the future.’ As a student, I looked to ASHP for
leaders in pharmacy that were examples to me in practice and profession. Now
that I am a practicing pharmacist, it is my hope that I will be a leader in the field.”
―Edward J. Doyle, Class of 2009, University of Rhode Island

“I would like to thank ASHP and its sponsors for the generous student leadership award that was presented to me. My leadership achievements in pharmacy school would not have been possible if it were not for the opportunities available through ASHP. I feel honored to be recognized for my contributions to the Society and feel even more motivated to continue to lead the profession towards further advancements.”
―Paulin Heng, Class of 2010, University of Southern California

“I am deeply grateful to all who made the ASHP Student Leadership Award possible.  It was a great honor to be recognized in this way and the award package has had a profound impact on my educational and professional endeavors. The drug information library has been incredibly helpful in my work and experiential rotations, and the monetary award will help me pursue a mission trip to Honduras with other healthcare professionals and students during my fourth year, during which we will distribute medications and provide healthcare to the indigent. My sincere thanks to all who make this award happen every year – I take great pride in being a member of this great organization that is so dedicated to helping students grow into strong leaders and professionals.”
―Sara Jordan, Class of 2001, The Ohio State University

“Undoubtedly, the Student Leadership Award has provided me the immense opportunity to not only become recognized among my peers, but also in the profession as a whole. Through this award, I have been able to finance some non-traditional rotations, in such unique pharmacy areas as Washington, D.C., Boston, and Alaska. Thank you again for the wonderful opportunity, as well as the variety of pharmacy practice books from
ASHP. This award has been invaluable to both my personal and professional development, and I hope will continue to be in the future.”
―Julie Lauffenburger, Class of 2010, University of Pittsburgh
