The ASHP Foundation hosts a special breakfast during the 2010 ASHP Summer Meeting to honor and recognize our donors. Trials and Tribulations of Developing an Intravenous (IV) Medication Delivery System for a Diverse Patient Population: ASHP Research and Education Foundation Award for Excellence in Medication-Use Safety Winner
Tuesday, June 8, 8 - 10 a.m.
Kelly A. Michienzi, Pharm.D., Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator, and Michael A. Cimino, M.S., R.Ph., Clinical Pharmacy Services Manager, of Kaleida Health, Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo, Buffalo, N.Y., will present information about this winning intiative. At the end of the presentation, attendees will be able to: 1)describe key elements of the award-winning program that decreased preventable IV medication errors by 50 percent; 2) explain how to develop and monitor hard and soft limits that are appropriate for specific patient populations; 3) explain the critical role of a drug library in medication error reduction and how to successfully develop and implement one; and 4) list three ways that real time data can be used to predict and prevent future medication errors.
