Student New Practitioner Leadership Task Force

The Student New Practitioner (SNP) Leadership Task Force was established in 2007 to address the leadership issues facing pharmacy students and those entering into pharmacy practice. Specifically, the SNP Task Force addresses the following:

• The current level of students' and new practitioners' exposure to leadership, or lack thereof, within the context of their present studies or practice settings.
• The specific gaps in leadership education and training for students and new practitioners.
• Opportunities to incorporate leadership education into the training and education of students and new practitioners.
• Innovative mechanisms and/or initiatives to address those gaps.
• The values, issues and challenges that uniquely impact new practitioners’ desire or ability to assume formal and informal leadership roles.

The SNP Task Force has published a new report, “Leadership As a Professional Obligation,” to address these topics.  The report includes eight recommendations.  While this topic is vast, the SNP Task Force believe the recommendations can facilitate a productive dialogue on the leadership issues facing students and new practitioners. Your feedback is requested! The SNP Task Force will continue to work with a variety of stakeholders to investigate the potential for turning the recommendations into specific initiatives.  We encourage you to read the report and share your comments with us. To do so, send your comments in an e-mail with the subject line "SNP Report" to foundation@ashp.org.
