The Center for Health-System Pharmacy Leadership and the American College of Healthcare Executives are hosting this Webinar as an opportunity for health-system and pharmacy executives to learn about the essential aspects of pharmacy required for today’s healthcare institution’s survival. The session will explore how the pharmacy and the corporate suite each view the pharmacy enterprise, why proactive communication between the pharmacy and the C-suite is essential for financial survival, efficient medication-use management and quality patient care. The speakers will provide unique opportunities for innovative solutions and programs that advance organization-wide and departmental initiatives.

Description
Runaway costs, uneven quality and the growing burden of the uninsured are focal points of attention in United States health care that some believe is heading for “the perfect storm.”  Several fronts are brewing simultaneously: reimbursement continues to flatten, costs are escalating, demographics are shifting and operating margins are narrowing. The next few years promise to see the buffeting power of these converging financial forces. Now is the time to prepare with an inward look at operations to find cash savings, productivity and safety safeguards, and new opportunities to contribute to narrowing margins.

With rapidly increasing drug costs, today’s pharmacy business models have become multimillion dollar operations that have material impact on the overall organization’s profitability. As drug costs and treatment options continuing to escalate, we face a rich pending-drug product pipeline and growing demand for these expensive new specialty drug products. The aging population intensifies the demands from chronic illnesses that require more costly drugs and life-long care.  It is no wonder that “the business of pharmacy” is on the radar screen of most C-suites. This program will explore current and future pharmacy drivers: financial issues that can make or break your organization's bottom line; operational issues that impact on overall efficiency, nursing care and patient service; risk management, patient safety and medication-use-related outcomes management.

Through this Webinar, strategies and tactics for assessing, improving and monitoring “the business of pharmacy” and building and leading the pharmacy team will be examined. Securing future fiscal soundness in pharmacy operations takes an integrated approach; alignment of goals; and new skill sets in change management, fiscal controls and risk mitigation.
