Sara J. White M.S., FASHP
March – June 2004
Project Title: “The Pharmacy Leadership Crisis”
In 2004, Sara J. White, MS, FASHP, served for 4 months as an ASHP Foundation Scholar-in-Residence to research issues affecting health-system pharmacy directors and leaders: the shortage of younger leaders, the effect of changes to pharmacy school curricula and the need for more post-graduate training for aspiring managers.
As a result of her research, the Foundation convened a group of experienced and young leaders to discuss the recommendations and suggest an action plan for the profession in October 2004. This round able discussion was in conjunction with the Webb Lecture Program sponsored by the Northeastern University School of Pharmacy and was funded by Amgen, Inc.
In April 2005, the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy published White’s paper about her work as well as an accompanying article summarizing the roundtable discussion. Read White's articles here.
In 2006, White was chosen as the recipient of ASHP's Harvey A.K. Whitney Lecture Award. Her lecture dealt with leadership issues as well. Read White's Whitney Lecture here.
