Program Overview
Healthcare, one of the largest industries in the United States of America continues to grow relative to other countries. Due to this growth, the need for healthcare professionals with a higher level of knowledge and expertise relating to healthcare operations is increasing.

The purpose of the Health Administration program is to prepare students for rewarding careers as healthcare managers in a variety of settings. The MHA program is an online distance learning program, and is interdisciplinary in nature, catering to healthcare professionals and executives across the health system.  Upon completion of the program, graduates will be productive in areas such as acute care, primary care facilities, medical group practices, long-term care facilities, public health organizations, health insurance agencies, alternative delivery organizations, federal, state and local agencies, pharmaceutical and other related organizations.

Objectives
The MHA curriculum prepares students for career advancement by providing in-depth application of contemporary health policy and health management issues and situations. MHA students and graduates apply their newly acquired knowledge immediately. To this end, students enrolled in the MHA program will be expected to:

1. exercise leadership in creating a vision to manage improvements in organizational performance.
2. synthesize concepts to conduct critical assessments of internal and external environments to position healthcare organizations with innovative strategies.
3. evaluate scientific and analytical methods in managerial decision-making.
4. apply management concepts with excellence.
5. assess political environments and develop initiatives strategically that consider stakeholders.
6. articulately communicate ideas, information with individuals and groups in the health care community.

Our Lady of the Lake College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degrees. MHA Application Requirements
To be considered for admission to the Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, an applicant must satisfy all College admission requirements. Those minimum requirements include the following:
 
1. Successfully complete a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university;
2. A grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.00 (“A” = 4.0) on all undergraduate work and a 3.00 GPA or better on any graduate work already completed.
3. Acceptable Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score with a 4 on the writing analysis. The GRE is waived if the student has a terminal degree (i.e. MD, PhD, Pharm.D., DOT, DPT, and DNP).or 3-5 year health management experience.
4. Successfully completed prerequisite courses in economics, accounting, and statistics highly recommended. Management coursework is also preferred.
5. Applicants must submit formal letter of introduction that identifies the student and his/her purpose in applying for the program;

8. FERPA Form
9. Transcripts from the PLA and higher education institution(s) from which the applicant completed courses for which the applicant seeks credit toward the Our Lady of the Lake degree.
