Pharmacy Forecast: Strategic Planning Advice for Pharmacy Departments in Hospitals and Health Systems

A trends report from the ASHP Foundation to help leaders plan for the future. The 2019 Pharmacy Forecast was supported by a grant from Omnicell, Inc., to the ASHP Foundation's David A. Zilz Leaders for the Future Fund.

Pharmacy Forecast focuses on important developments in eight domains that are likely to challenge pharmacy practice leaders in hospitals and health systems. Its purpose is to improve the effectiveness of leaders in hospital and health-system pharmacy practice by helping them plan for the future. Pharmacy Forecast reports the results of a survey of trend watchers in health-system pharmacy, analyzes predicted trends and presents more than 40 authoritative, actionable strategic recommendations to pharmacy practice leaders.

About the Project Director
Lee C. Vermeulen, B.S.Pharm., M.S., FCCP, FFIP, serves as the Program Director and Editor for Pharmacy Forecast 2019. Mr. Vermeulen is Chief of Enterprise Academic Service Lines for UK HealthCare and Professor of Medicine and Pharmacy at the University of Kentucky. In his executive role, he is responsible for the development and oversight of enterprise-wide academic service lines that horizontally integrate care delivery across age groups, medical and surgical disciplines, settings of care, and operational units in a value-based, patient-centered model. Mr. Vermeulen has served as a member of the Pharmacy Forecast Advisory Committee since its inception in 2013, experience that positions him well to guide the creation and publication of future issues of the report.

Founding Editor
William A. Zellmer is one of pharmacy’s most distinguished leaders. During his nearly 40-year tenure at ASHP, he helped shape the pharmacy profession in the United States and abroad. He is the author of The Conscience of a Pharmacist and the 1996 recipient of the ASHP Harvey A. K. Whitney Award. In 2009, to honor Mr. Zellmer as he retired, the ASHP Foundation established a lecture fund in his name. Mr. Zellmer will serve in a consultative role for Pharmacy Forecast 2019.
