In Memory of Janet Teeters

On August 15, 2014, ASHP and the ASHP Foundation lost a dear friend and colleague in Janet L. Teeters, M.S.

Janet joined ASHP in 2002 as director of the Accreditation Services Division and held that position until the time of her death. Her contributions were instrumental to the tremendous growth of ASHP’s accreditation programs and services, which include pharmacy residency and pharmacy technician training programs, domestically and internationally.

Before joining ASHP, Janet served as director of pharmacy for the Advocate Health Care System and Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. She also held staff, supervisory, and assistant director positions in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Boston, Massachusetts. She received a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin and a master's degree in hospital pharmacy from the University of Minnesota.

Janet was the program director for the residency program at Lutheran General Hospital, and a member of the Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Executive Board and the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists Technician Certification Commission.

"This is an unimaginable loss for those of us who worked closely with Janet for so many years," said ASHP CEO Paul W. Abramowitz, Pharm.D., Sc.D. (Hon.), FASHP. "Her commitment to helping pharmacists prepare for their patient care roles has made a significant impact on our profession.

"In addition to her professional accomplishments, Janet will be remembered for her engaging personality and generous spirit. She was a gracious leader, a caring mentor, and a treasured friend to many. She will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during their time of loss."

Janet is survived by her husband Joseph and a sister, Diane Katt.
