ASHP Foundation Awards RFID Technology Research Grant
The ASHP Foundation is pleased to award nearly $37,000 in research funding through the Enhancing Adoption of Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology Grant Program to Les Louden, PharmD, MS from St. Joseph's Hospital, Inc. in Tampa, Florida, for his project, "Advancing Pharmacy Inventory Systems: The Impact of RFID-Enabled Bins on High-Cost Medication Tracking."
By implementing RFID bin technology for high-cost medications stored in refrigerators in hospital outpatient infusion centers, Louden's project will create a cost-benefit analysis to evaluate how such technology can improve operational efficiencies, reduce healthcare costs, and improve patient care through real-time visibility of pharmacy inventory needs.
The Enhancing Adoption of RFID Technology Grant is part of an ASHP Foundation initiative sponsored by Fresenius Kabi.
Alongside the research grants awarded, the ASHP Foundation has produced research and learning resources in the ASHP eLearning Center. Learn about RFID technology trends, practical considerations for evaluating and implementing, and use cases in current practice.
