Paul W. Abramowitz Fund

The ASHP Foundation is proud to launch the Paul W. Abramowitz Fund to Enhance Public Awareness of Pharmacy & Inspire the Next Generation of Practitioners, a campaign to elevate the health-system pharmacy profession, enhance public understanding of pharmacists’ roles in optimizing patient care, and inspire and prepare the next generation to join the pharmacy workforce.

The fund honors Dr. Abramowitz’s visionary leadership, commitment to advancing pharmacy practice, and dedication to inspiring the next generation. It will empower ASHP and the Foundation to champion the evolving role of hospital and health-system pharmacists and ensure the profession’s continued growth and impact.

Ten percent of every gift will go to the Cornerstone Fund, which directs dollars to where the need is greatest in the Foundation.

WHY NOW?

  • Today’s healthcare challenges and opportunities to improve patient health demand innovation, resilience, and leadership from across the pharmacy profession, yet many in the public don’t understand the vital clinical role of hospital and health-system pharmacists in patient care.

  • The growing need for chronic disease management among an aging U.S. population, combined with ongoing workforce shortages, poses a serious threat to the sustainability of patient care teams — including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Investments in new talent and the current workforce are urgently needed to advance the pharmacy profession and the care of our patients.

WHAT WILL THE FUND SUPPORT?

  • Public Awareness Campaign: Increase public and stakeholder understanding of the essential role pharmacists have in optimizing patient care and invest in research to measure the campaign’s impact over time.

  • Workforce Pipeline and Early-Career Engagement: Support programs that attract and prepare students, pharmacy technicians, and early-career pharmacists for impactful and enduring roles.

GOALS FOR THE FUTURE

Our campaign seeks funding to build and sustain key initiatives:

  • Expand and elevate national public awareness of the essential role pharmacists have in optimizing patient care.

  • Engage and support students and future practitioners at every stage of their journey.

  • Advance research and programming aligned with the pharmacy workforce and leadership.

  • Honor and amplify the values Paul Abramowitz exemplified throughout his career.
