ASHP Foundation Launches New ASHP Midyear Travel Award Program Supporting Diversity in the Pharmacy Workforce

The ASHP Foundation is pleased to announce a new competitive travel award program designed to enhance the diversity and inclusivity of the pharmacy workforce for those in pharmacy school seeking post-graduate training, residency, or fellowships.

The ASHP Midyear Travel Award Program will provide stipends of $500 to at least 30 current PharmD candidates expected to graduate from pharmacy school in Spring 2024. The stipends are designed to offset travel expenses associated with attending the 2023 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting & Exhibition.

The new program is made possible through a collaboration among ASHP, the ASHP Foundation, and PharmGradWishlist, a “mutual aid movement” organized by a group of practicing pharmacists throughout the United States with the goal of supporting racially and ethnically minoritized pharmacist trainees.

The ASHP Midyear Travel Award Program is part of ASHP’s longstanding commitment to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion and supports the recommendations and goals outlined in the ASHP Task Force on Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Eligible pharmacy students must self-identify with racially and/or ethnically minoritized group(s) and have financial need, a demonstrated commitment to leadership and community service, and plans for post-graduate training and beyond.

In addition to the travel stipend, each selected awardee will receive:

  • Full-meeting registration for the 2023 ASHP Midyear meeting in Anaheim, CA, Dec 3 – 7, 2023
  • 1-year ASHP student membership
  • Recognition via electronic communications through ASHP official channels and during the ASHP Foundation Donor event at the Midyear meeting

The ASHP Foundation is accepting applications starting today, Sept. 5, and the submission deadline is Oct. 2.
