ASHP Foundation Report Features Recommendations for Implementing RFID Technology
The ASHP Foundation is pleased to release a new report, Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID) in Medication-Use Systems: Considerations and Recommendations to Advance Implementation.
Sponsored by Fresenius Kabi, the report features an actionable set of recommendations gathered by a strategic advisory group to enable others to assess barriers, opportunities, and recommendations to support the implementation of RFID in their practice setting.
Using a performance improvement framework, the advisory group created process flowcharts for three current uses of RFID technology in medication-use systems: pharmacy, perioperative, and inpatient. Next, they analyzed process variations across organizations and created a robust set of recommendations to address barriers, concerns, or areas of potential failure. Finally, they prioritized the recommendations grouped into four domains: policy, regulations and standards, workflow, stakeholder engagement, and analytics and outcomes.
