The PGY2 critical care pharmacy residency program at Houston Methodist Hospital prepares its residents to be part of a medical team. Residents receive advanced education and training and are integrated into the multidisciplinary rounding team on every clinical rotation across an eight-hospital system. Preceptor Kevin Donahue, PharmD, BCPS, says, “This allows for increased exposure to and confidence working with other complex aspects of large academic hospital systems including non-clinical skills like project management and collaboration in various hierarchy structures which represents an increasingly larger part of many job descriptions today.”

According to former resident Matthew A. Wanat, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP, FCCM, clinical associate professor at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy, “The residency program was extremely challenging, but it has shaped me into the confident and competent clinician and educator that I am today. Preceptors in the program are well respected by physicians and nurses in their respective ICU units, which helps to acclimate trainees into these fast-paced environments.
